We are looking for an enthusiastic, well organised senior housing advisor for the arrears prevention and recovery team in the Rent Management service. This key post is responsible for managing a caseload of tenancies in arrears.

The key tasks for this post are:

• Taking a proactive approach to the management of individual rent arrears cases including taking preventative measures.

• Using a variety of methods, make and maintain contact (including carrying out home visits) with tenants to negotiate realistic payment arrangements. This involves giving appropriate advice on welfare benefits to maximise their income and dealing with debts, making referrals to other departments and organisations as appropriate. This can include working outside of normal office hours.

• Taking proactive arrears recovery action from the service of a notice and legal action up to and including eviction where necessary.

An opportunity has arisen for a Housing Officer Level 4 BG 8 in the Private Housing, Service Co-ordination team (PHSCT) in Neighbourhoods.

The Housing Officers carry out an important role for the Private Housing Service as a small unit so must have a flexible attitude and be able to work closely with other officers.

Work in the service is interesting and varied, typically, Housing Officers handle complex incoming calls, letters and e mails from a wide range of service users on a daily basis, such as members of the public, landlords and the tenants who are privately renting their homes. The post holder will work alongside the CHIVA Project’s team, with specific responsibilities relating to the youth committee, secure website, general youth area of our public website and the Camp Leaders Programme which is part of our annual support camp.
