The Food Chain provides nutrition

services including home delivered meals, essential groceries and nutrition advice to men, women and children who are chronically sick as a result of HIV related illness. The Food Chain exists to ensure that those living with HIV in the UK have access to good nutrition to regain their health and stay well.We aim to ensure that no one living with the virus has their ability to get well and stay well adversely affected by lack of access to appropriate food. All our services are provided with the help and support of over 750 volunteers and funded via public donations."I had not eaten properly for weeks before I got my first meal from you. I had been so ill and felt too weak to cook. I could not believe the wonderful food you sent me and my daughter and I thank everyone."To this end we run a hot and cold meal service on Sundays out of six borrowed kitchens across London - Bermondsey, Hammersmith, Highbury, Tooting, Kentish Town and Stepney Green. We are looking for volunteers who can help out once every month in a variety of different roles (kitchen assistants, navigators, supervisors, lead cooks) but because we are currently facing a hard time in terms of finding volunteers with access to a car this advert is mainly focusing on that. Drivers work with a navigator to deliver hot and cold meals to 8-10 service users on a Sunday lunch time. Therefore, if you are reliable, organised, have a UK valid driving license (or equivalent) and access to a car large enough to fit yourself, a hot and cold box and a navigator, please do consider getting in contact. Even if you do not think you can do once a month, even once every six weeks would be fantastic. All driving costs incurred in volunteering for us will be reimbursed up to 35p/mile if need be. If you are interested and would like to find out more please check out our website www.foodchain.org.uk or contact me on the attached details. You can also download an application form at http://www.foodchain.org.uk/volunteer/download_a_volunteer_application/ if you think this is definitely something for you. How does it work? You’ll work with a small number of unemployed people on a voluntary basis, helping them to return to work.
